Building Scale Models – Eleven Tips for Aircraft Modelling Beginners

Introduction
I am and have always been passionate about aircraft modeling i.e. building plastic scale models ever since my childhood years. On the whole, building scale models is a fun-filled activity indeed. However, plastic model kits are increasingly getting scarce in stores in this day and age.

For this reason, consider searching online or looking around for a hobby shop online which deals with the sale of scale models. Certain online stores deal in specific types of plastic models. For example, certain stores stock military aircraft models only, whereas others deal in helicopter models only. This expedites the process of finding the right one.

You can get to know more about the structure you are constructing by familiarizing yourself with the names of the various components in the process of assembling them together. For example, in case you are assembling a model car, you will most likely get to know the names of the various parts of engines.

Here are a Few Important Tips for the Beginner Plastic Aircraft Modeling builder

Tip #1: Spray paint your model first and foremost before commencing to assemble it. It may not be possible for you to paint it after you have already assembled it. This is because certain portions of the final outcome may not be easily accessible. Your model will also closely assemble that one which was built by an amateur.
A can spray paint will often do for the fuselage or body of your car. Before painting, you have to shake the can vigorously for around 30-60 seconds before commencing the process. Paint a small portion of the area first and foremost to test whether the color or smoothness of the paint is alright.

Tip #2: While painting, is sure t be in a ventilated area. Hold the spray can correctly and stay at the right distance from the model also, usually at about 6 inches from the model. Getting too close may result in running your model while being farther away may result in an orange peel effect.
This is to mean that the final outcome shall appear dull and rough. Move the can out and about while spraying. Concentrate on just one spot may lead to uneven paint distribution and not so great outcomes. Do some practice on an old cardboard before eventfully spraying the car. Also, apply a coat of paint then wait an hour before applying a second coat for best results.

Tip #3: Use a brush to paint most of the small parts before proceeding to detach and finally assembling them. This enables you to paint the smaller parts and components without necessarily soiling your fingers and fingerprints in the process.

Tip #4: Before gluing the various constituent parts together, get rid of any chrome from the affected surfaces where you are to later apply the glue. This is to prevent the paint from peeling off later and inhibiting the pieces from falling off.

Tip #5: Be sure to be in a well-ventilated room as you do your painting. Put several layers on the floor before commencing your work. You do not want to spoil the household furniture, do you?

Tip #6: Fasten the items you are painting by use of a body holder from a clothes hanger. This prevents the paint from spilling all over your hands. It also prevents you from leaving behind fingerprints all over the final outcomes.

Tip #7: Do not rush; instead, take your time. You will more likely make mistakes in case you rush.

Tip #8: Read the instructions completely before commencing the exercise of painting. Refer to these instructions from time to time as you undertake your painting. This will relieve you of unnecessary stress.

Tip #9: Exhibit your finished model in a safe place. Consider purchasing and utilizing a safety glass for the sake of safeguarding it.

Tip #10: For long-term and frequent model building, you may consider purchasing an airbrush for the sake of undertaking a more professional-looking paint job.

Tip #11: Enjoy your painting!
